Singer / Speaker & Mental Health Advocate
Mylin Brooks-Stoddard
"When we are young and naive, we make the mistake of believing that life will never change. That somehow we will always be frozen in those moments that are grand and momentous. Maybe it's that we are incapable at that time to understand that life has seasons, ups and downs. Maybe we're just hoping that nothing ever changes. As I've gotten older, I've learned to let go of trying to exist in one season...the "what could've been's, what should've been's," and have come to appreciate that life does change. And all of the changes I've experienced, the good, the bad, the momentous, the mundane and seemingly unimportant...they have all made me who I am today. These shifting seasons have helped me grow into a better person and I'm grateful for it." ...Mylin In a relatively short life, Writer/Musician/Mental Health Advocate Mylin Brooks-Stoddard has experienced some of the highest and some of the lowest experiences life has to offer, taking her on a journey that would shape who she is today. Mylin was born in the Philippines to a father in the U.S. Navy and Filipina mother, before growing up in the U.S. At the age of 14, she was handpicked out of Midwest City, Oklahoma to move to Orlando, Florida to star on the Disney Channel's The All New Mickey Mouse Club, the same show that launched the careers of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling, just to name a few. After starring on the show for 3 years (seasons 3, 4 and 5), Mylin signed a record deal with Avex Group, an international major label, spending the next 4 years recording 3 albums plus releasing a greatest hits album, while being included on over 100 compilation albums, and touring Japan and South Korea. Since and along the way, Mylin has recorded a total of 6 albums, been featured on the E! Channel, A&E Biography, CNN, The Disney Channel, and in Teen and People magazines. She performed at President Clinton's Inaugural Ball with Boyz II Men, Vanessa Williams, and Kenny Loggins, and toured with multi-platinum artist Nick Lachey. She also played shows with Grammy-Winner Patti LaBelle and Grammy-Nominated Five for Fighting. In support of her father and the U.S. military she's also performed dozens of shows at U.S. military bases, including the Air Force's 60th Anniversary Gala at Edwards Air Force Base and the Welcome Home from Iraq Celebration for the Army's 1st Cavalry at Fort Hood, Texas with Grammy-Winner Maren Morris. She's performed the national anthem at multiple Major League Baseball and NBA games both in the U.S. and overseas. Throughout a career of constantly being on the move, Mylin began to realize and reflect on a life that has also had extended periods of lows. After struggling for more than 20 years, Mylin was diagnosed with clinical depression in 2012. As she spent the next couple years battling through recovery, learning, growing and healing, she felt an urge to begin to share her story in the hopes she could encourage others. "I've been blessed with so many unique opportunities in my life," Mylin reflects. "But regardless of the amazing experiences, I had a struggle to achieve or maintain any ounce of joy or happiness. I needed help. Once I sought it out, I began to understand how common depression and mental illnesses are, and how many resources exist to deliver us from the pain. I am now healed by God, by the wonderful resources of support around me, therapy and medicine. I want to share with those struggling that there is hope and there is no shame. I've never been more happy and at peace." Mylin currently produces and co-hosts a YouTube show called, The All Things My-Dee Show with former castmate of The All New Mickey Mouse Club, Deedee Magno Hall. After almost 30 years since having met on the set of the hit Disney TV show, they are still best friends to this day. With a lot of laughter and honesty, often with an added guest, they share about life experiences, including discussions on identity, career, success, failure, motherhood, marriage, faith and mental health. Mylin currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her husband of 24 years, her 9 year old daughter and 6 year old son.
